Eisriesenwelt is the largest ice cave system in the world. The temperature inside does not exceed 0°C all year round, and water seeping through the cracks in the ceiling immediately freezes. It is important to dress warmly when visiting. These caves were formed 2 million years ago when Europe's climate was much warmer than today. Water flowing through the limestone rocks in a long-term process dissolved them, creating this enormous, complex world of underground corridors and chambers. Inside the cave, you can admire magnificent ice formations, which, illuminated by magnesium light and carbide lamps, create an unforgettable impression.

Access is by cable car, followed by a walk of approximately 40 minutes to the cave entrance.

The caves were discovered in 1879 and contain 30,000 m³ of ice and 42 km of explored corridors. Photography is forbidden in the caves. Visitors walk down 1,200 steps in the cave.

The photo shows a road leading along the mountain and the entrance to a cave, situated at an altitude of approximately 1700 m above sea level. The cave entrance can only be accessed with a guide, every 30 minutes.
